The school is actively seeking opportunities to improve the educational environment, parents of students are encouraged to participate in joint activities, and a culture of lifelong learning is being developed. Our school leadership is based on the principles of service leadership: the leader is constantly learning and striving to excel by inspiring her staff.
Our school works on:
Since 2014, the school has been part of the UNESCO Network of Associated Schools and integrates the United Nations Agenda 2030 in its activities. There are only 15 UNESCO ASPnet schools in Lithuania.
Promoting reading. For 8 years, the school has been running some reading promotion projects. Thanks to the continuous promotion of reading through non-traditional activities, our school can be proud to have made the biggest progress in the country in terms of improving reading scores for many years.
Particular attention is paid to STEAM. This is developed not only in integrated lessons, but also in compulsory extra-curricular activities. Every school year, pupils work on practical research projects. At the beginning of the school year, they choose a topic and research it throughout the school year, carry out various investigations and experiments, and have the opportunity to consult not only our school teachers, but also lecturers from Vytautas Magnus University, the UNESCO L'OREAL Women Scientists winners, the UNESCO organisation and other scientific institutions in Lithuania. A cooperation agreement with Vytautas Magnus University is signed in 2023.
In the school year 2022-2023, the first professional sports classes have been added to the Alytus Dainava Progymnasium. They provide promising athletes with special conditions for sports, training, healthy eating, work and rest. The new sports classes brought 60 new pupils to the school.
The school actively takes care of students' mental health. There are various projects, a sensory room where both students and teachers can relax and calm down. The school also has a Pupil Council. They are involved in various school decisions and organise various activities for their peers.
The school is also open to war refugees from Ukraine and migrants returning to Lithuania.
The school currently has 363 pupils and 32 teachers.
Experience in the implementation of educational projects aimed at young people
One of our biggest youth projects was Global Education Goes Local (GEGL). Its main goal is to engage young people in global change through local activities. Talking about the United Nations 2030 Agenda: human rights, climate change, sustainable economy, etc.
It is very important to point out that schools are a multifaceted environment and therefore the field of interest is very broad. Our school focuses on STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art (all other subjects), Math. Therefore, there are many points of cooperation.
